  1. “Se Pou Mwen Ou Ye” is a wonderful story. After taking the “Learn Haitian Creole with Gloria” course I’m able to read the story with a good understanding and then fill in the little gaps by using the English translation that accompanies each paragraph. I would highly recommend this book for Kreyol learners, parents adopting from Haiti, children, teachers looking to expand their classroom libraries, and etc.

  5. On my point of view, the mother not really explain to her daughter why she could not hang out with her brother because there still exists a bit of social prejudice, but in order for her daughter not to feel sad. The mother explained that they would have more time together and that was also part of truth.

  8. After reading this story, I realized that love doesn’t always come from direct words but instead from actions filled with deep meaning.
I am a little girl from Vietnam, a small country brimming with affection. To me, the bond between a mother and child is a sacred and incomparable love. There’s a Vietnamese proverb that says, “Công cha như núi Thái Sơn / Nghĩa mẹ như nước trong nguồn chảy ra” which means “A father’s effort is as immense as Mount Tai, a mother’s love is as boundless as water flowing from its source.” After reading the short story You Belong To Me by the dedicated teacher Gloria Guignard Board, I have come to deeply appreciate the value of maternal love and family bonds.
I used to think that due to the “son preference” mindset, daughters were expected to do housework while sons were free to play. However, after reading this story, I learned something new—that it’s not as bad as I thought. On the contrary, it holds a profound meaning—maternal love.
The short story You Belong To Me is undoubtedly meaningful and beneficial for children learning how to love. I hope more people will come to know about this story or bring it into the study lesson, which is helpf and meaningful for kids.
